Floriade is a once in a decade World Horticultural Expo staged in Holland.  

The sixth Floriade from April to October 2012 has the overall theme “Be part of the theatre in nature, get closer to the quality of life” with five theme worlds:

♦ Green Engine

♦ Education & Innovations

♦ Environment

♦ World Show Stage

The exhibition in Venlo in central-eastern Holland covers 40 hectares and showcases flowers, plants, trees, fruit and vegetables from 115 exhibitors including 7,000m2 of indoor flower and plant shows. 

Open every day Floriade also includes an international cultural programme of music, dance, literature, theatre and visual art.

Expected attendance of Floriade 2012 is 2 million visitors.

Zantedeschia (Calla Lily) cut flowers are curently outside the top 15 listing for volume of cut flowers traded on the FloraHolland clock, mainly due to lower than usual supply of imported flowers. Zantedeschia pots plants however are currently number 9 position for cumulative volume of house plants traded, with sales of 6.369.121 plants so far in 2012. The average price for week 16 is slightly higher than in 2011; however volume traded for the same week is significantly lower than last year.

Keeping cut flowers perky for longer is probably the last thing a man taking Viagra would think of. But the drug designed to help revive his love life can have the same effect on a wilting bouquet. Apparently just one milligram of Viagra can give cut flowers another week of life. Men nursing concerns about their sexual performance may not be terribly excited about this discovery. Nevertheless, there may be some couples who are more excited about the drug's horticultural application than its principal use.
